"But Doth Suffer A Sea-change Into Something Rich And Strange."
Shakespeare wrote that. And Beck named one of his albums Sea Change. Beck is a Shakespeare of our day; he is one of the best musicians working and he won't be fully appreciated by mass audiences until long after he's dead, which by the tone of this album, you might think happened some time around it's release.
Fear Not! Beck is alive and well.
This set of songs is definitely dreary but it's also astonishingly beautiful. Check out the "listen" link in the right column for one of the frikkin' awesomest songs from the album. The string slide just before the first refrain? Strings building and climbing far past the breaking point until the song melts away? Like I said, frikkin' awesome.
